Developing Your Spiritual Tools - Beyond the Basics

I have put together some simple exercises to help you hone in on, and strengthen your gifts! Many people know that they have spiritual or psychic abilities or tendencies, but do not know where to begin with strengthening or controlling them. Here are some practices to assist with development. 

Once you have a regular practice involving work such as this you will begin to have insights and further developments on your own. This is especially true if you pay attention to the insights you have when you practice. 

If you are in a heightened state of emotion, or otherwise could use some grounding, calming or focus; it is a good idea to purify yourself before beginning the other exercises. 

Here is a short list of simple purification techniques which work to cleanse and center: 

1. Baths with Sea Salt

2. Showers

3. Exercise 

4. Spending time in nature

5. Swimming 

6. Being Barefoot in the grass or Earth

7. Burning sage, frankincense, or mugwort 

*Note: mugwort does double duty for cleansing & psychic awakening*

Additionally, I recommend spending some time working on cleansing, aligning & awakening your chakras. This activity will help you with initial purification and centering as well as overall growth & development of  your skills. Once you have practiced this exercise regularly it will begin to work for you very quickly. 

Steps for Chakra Work: 

1. Lie Down on a flat surface with your arms spread out at your sides and your hands palm up. 
2. Take three very deep breaths. 
3. Deepen your breathing and focus specifically on exhaling. 

4. As you breathe in imagine your breath traveling around your body & gathering up tension, pain, old energy, ... anything tight or unneeded. 

5. As you exhale see this old energy being released from your body and absorbed into the earth. Spend as much time on this step as you need. 
6. As you breathe in draw up a bright, sparkling, golden light into yourself, filling your body, filling you up with fresh, enlightening energy from the earth. 

*(you can stop here if your intention is only for cleansing or grounding or if you only have time for a short practice - move ahead if you want deeper energy work focusing on chakras)*

7. Feel & see a bright white light streaming in through your crown chakra. You may actually feel this chakra opening up like the bones in your skull sliding apart to make room for the vibrant light. It may feel warm or tingling or energizing to you. See & feel this light come in through your crown and travel down your spine. Play with the energy. Feel it moving up and down your spine cleansing & freeing the energy in your body. 

8. Next spend some time moving this energy through each chakra, cleansing and opening all of them respectively from your crown down your body through the other 6. 

*(you can stop her if you want a simpler or shorter meditation)*

Further Chakra Work: Color Therapy:

9. Focus further on your chakras. Start with your crown chakra & move down your body from there. As you focus on each chakra try to actually feel the sensations there. Sometimes people can feel the chakra opening, sometimes people can feel a tingly sensation or a warm sensation. As you focus on each chakra imagine energy the appropriate color streaming into and / or out of each meridian. Experiment with this, for some it is best to feel the energy going in, others out.. some both. Play around with the energy. If you can't see the colors, don't worry, over time you will. If you don't feel any sensation, don't worry, over time you will. If you feel blockages, it's nothing to worry about.. these can change from day to day & if they persist they will get better over time as you practice. 

Grounding (it is best to ground after such work, especially as a beginner):

1. take deep breaths, imagine and feel all extra energy leaving your body and returning into the earth. 
2. Stand in mountain position (feet hip width apart, arms at your side, ankles, knees, hips and shoulders aligned with one another - shoulders relaxed & dropped, head upright & center of your shoulders). Imagine roots growing from your feet into the earth, see them traveling down and connecting you to the soil and to the divine shelter. 

*The above grounding exercise can be practiced as a free-standing meditation anytime you need to feel more centered, connected or calm. It is especially recommended after any magical work or intense experiences.* 

Here is a short list of additional simple grounding activities

1. Drink water

2. Eat, especially salty food

3. Put your feet in the earth

*These exercises work best when done consistently. Practicing at the same time of day is beneficial, such as when you wake up or before you go to bed. They will help you with visualization (which is highly important in magickal work), concentration, learning to read cues from Spirit and from your higher self, tuning in with your intuition, quieting your mind, reducing stress, manifesting your goals.. and more!*
